Changing my mindset

This entire unit has changed a lot about my mindset on what foods are appealing or disgusting to eat. After seeing the documentary on how animals are treated and raised on the "farms", and how meat is processed and packaged for the consumer, it made me realize just how appalling and truly disturbing the meat industry really is. Since animals tend to suffer and sometimes die while they are raised, it also made me wonder if the way they were treated affected their overall health, which led me to my research question: how does the way animals are treated and raised affect the meat they produce? The answers helped me better understand the realities of industrial farming today. This unit really made me more aware of what I eat on almost a daily basis.
If I could go back 4 years knowing these realities of industrial farming, I would have definitely been more aware of what I was eating. It might have changed me today as a person because I would be more conscious of the horrible condition animals go through before they are slaughtered and then processed for consumers to buy and simply microwave the meal.
In order to change the food industry to be healthier and more safe for people in general to eat meat, I would suggest going to farmers markets to ask where the meat comes from, and how the animals were raised in that particular farm. One could also find more information about what they eat at restaurants or on food labels. If everyone participated in this cautiousness, America as a whole would be more healthy and less prone to disease from the food they consume.
