third course blog
Before
starting this project I had some knowledge about the processing of food and had
certain beliefs about the kind of foods I ate and how much of them I ate.
However throughout the entire course of this project and investigation, reading
articles, other people’s papers and watching the food Inc. video I’ve come to
discover even more about what really goes on with our food and have been able
to solidify my beliefs. Although I may not be able to carry out all of my food
preferences at this moment, I am definitely a lot more conscious about the food
I eat and where it comes from. Not only the food itself, but also the people that
are involved in the processing and handling of the food before it reaches the
supermarkets as well. Reading about the food systems here in the US has greatly
changed my mindset towards how popular food is marketed, distributed, and the
kind of food involved in things such as food banks and school lunches. A big
thing that has stuck with me is the idea of a passive consumer and how it is
this type of consumer that fuels the big companies to continue tearing down the
quality of food. Overall, the way I see the food I eat and the foods that
surround me has changed in a way that I consider more the food choices I make.

I think that the research paper has opened everyone's eyes. Today I was helping out my church and we were making chicken meatballs and the thought of how the chickens were killed and what they were given to eat was disgusting. I think I will be traumatized for the next couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteYeah this unit has gave me a different perspective on how we eat. Realizing what was really in the food gave me disgusting feel after I ate certain stuff.Took a toll on me for a while.
