Food wasting Frenzy
I love food, and to imagine that in the U.S. we waste over 60 million tons of food each year drives me absolutely insane. What is even more breathtaking is that the waste doesn't end there. The New York Times reports that approximately one third of all food produced in our world is not consumed estimating about 400 billion dollars in waste. The wasting goes beyond food; we're out here wasting money as well, and lots of it.
So why are we wasting so much food and money you're asking? The problem is our society. We have become used to mass producing and subsidizing foods, and our tax payer dollars are being thrown down the drain for no good reason. the same thing is happening to other countries around the world as well. Our government spends money, that could be used for more beneficial things, on mass producing foods like corn and wheat to help the farming industry of America. Instead, what needs to be done is the trend setting of a waste-free America. Rather than allow food to be thrown away and wasted, we should be trying to all use all food we don't eat in other beneficial ways.
If we establish food recycling programs and a system to distribute food thrown away by grocery stores, then we will be taking great small steps in the right direction. If nothing is done to fight this national waste problem then we will continue to waste money, food, and damage the environment. In the simplest of terms, do not waste food In America. Conserve to Improve.
