Being the petty teenager I am, I decided to research the weaknesses revolving around America's current public school lunch program after getting into an argument regarding the healthfulness of school meals. I was called a picky eater for virtually refraining school meals from entering my diet for the past few years, whereas I concluded that a majority of my peers would agree that our school lunch program is far from desirable. To support my claim, I began to research school lunches and its correlation to child obesity. I also went into detail on the impact of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and how governmental mandates have shaped our system. However, I also discussed the unhealthy and wasteful mindset about food our children obtain and carry from their experiences as a student. Finally, I critiqued the school meal programs of other modern countries to help point out possible approaches to fixing the system.
It hasn't been hard to find sources about the health of school lunches or information regarding childhood obesity. However, my research on the mindset of young eaters could use a few more sources to increase my credibility on the matter. As for the rest, I'll need a couple more sources as I begin to expand on the incompetence of the program itself (food waste, the inefficient spending of money, etc). I could also gain from hearing potential solutions to the problems I had mentioned from new and varying perspectives.
Finally, does anyone have any suggestions on a potential point in my research that I've failed to mention?
I really like your post its so detailed, but I really agree with you. School lunches are far from desirable, and being a picky eater is not a bad thing. Maybe you could mention about how school lunches promise to be healthy, but its actually far from that and could create picky eaters. Or you could talk about what the people of the school could do for better lunches?
