I chose to research low income families in America and how they cannot afford healthy diets,

As we all know, fresh, organic produce tends to be  a lot more expensive, so when it comes to eating a meal , low income families turn to a local fast food joint because it's efficient and cheap.
In the article, "Can Low-Income Americans Afford a Healthy Diet?" , Author  Adam Drewnowski speaks of the painful truth of the diet of middle class families , and how they are contributing to the obesity rate across the United States. He proposes the idea that healthier diets should be made more affordable because the meals these families are buying are not sufficient to healthier dietary guidelines.
He also suggests different ways a cheaper healthy diets can be achieved for low income families: For example , Nutrient profiling, which is when produce distributors and industries evaluate their items according to their nutrient content to draw their "energy cost",and stores will set up their prices according to the amount of nutrients in each item, which will result in healthier food options being cheaper and foods will little to no nutrients to be more expensive.
i find this article very helpful because not only does it inform readers about the unsound diets of low income families but how society can move to fix this problem

  1. This this is true and I would also like to add on that fast food chains tend to target low income neighborhoods which makes it easier for them to access it. If all you have around you is fast food restaurants and stores that sell junk food, which is all cheaper than healthy food that you can get in a grocery store, and you can't spend a lot of money, it is obvious where you're going to by your food from. When you make this an everyday thing, your health begins to be in danger. People in low income areas face this everyday and the problem needs to be fixed.
